Softball Season Ends

The Roughrider softball season came to an abrupt halt Friday afternoon with two losses in the NJCAA Region I Division I double elimination tournament. YC fell to the #1 seed Central Arizona College, 9-3, in the first game of the day and then fell to #3 Eastern Arizona College in the elimination game, 6-1. Yavapai concludes the 2013 season with a 36-19 overall record.

In the opener, the Vaqueros used a five-run 3rd inning put an insurmountable distance between them and the Roughirders.. YC could only manage 8 hits with Mita Cortez getting four of those hits. Kasey Oliver added two base knocks.

Aundria Zuniga –Romero allowed 8 earned runs and 7 walks for the loss from the circle.

In the final game, YC scored their only run in the first inning. Yavapai’s bats went silent the remainder of the game getting only 4 hits.

The Roughriders lose 7 sophomores and will return 5 freshmen for the 2014 season.
