At the ACCAC coach’s meeting on Monday afternoon, sophomore Brandi Heimburg and freshmen Aundria Zuniga-Romero and Valerie Luera were voted to receive post-season honors. Heimburg and Zuniga-Romero were named ACCAC 1st Team and 1st Team NJCAA Region I Division I recipients and Luera garnered ACCAC 2nd Team and 2nd Team NJCAA Region I Division I awards.

For Heimburg, this is the second consecutive year that she has been so honored. The hard-hitting outfielder led the team in batting average (.455), hits (86), doubles (18), triples (3) and runs scored (59). In 2012, Heimburg was also named to the NFCA (National Fast Pitch Coaches Association) All-America Team. The Phoenix native will take her talents to the University of New Mexico next season.

Zuniga-Romero led the conference in wins (31) logging over 273 innings for the Roughriders. Her 31 victories ranked her second in the NJCAA. The Safford native was 3rd in the conference with 214 strikeouts and was 8th in the conference with a 2.38 ERA.

Luera was a force at the hot corner for first-year head coach Terri Knecht. The Tucsonan hit a solid .340 for the year with 53 hits, 9 doubles, 6 home runs and 39 RBI’s. Luera also had a respectable .906 fielding percentage.

These three and the rest of the Roughriders begin NJCAA Region I Division I Playoffs on Friday against conference champs Central Arizona College at 12:30 PM. The tournament will be played at Central Arizona College with the winner moving onto the NJCAA National Tournament in St. George, Utah, May 15-18th.
