Conquering Roughriders

The Roughrider baseball team crushed the Aztecs from Pima Community College on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep, 12-5 and 12-0. Yavapai is now 37-8 overall and 20-8 in ACCAC. Pima falls to 21-23 on the year and 11-17 in the conference standing.

In the first game, YC came from behind with a six-run 6th inning to come away with the victory. The Roughriders blasted three home runs and had 11 runs batted in. Stephen Carbajal, Tim Arakawa and Alexis Olmeda each had two hits apiece. Carbajal, Krysthian Leal and Michael Howard hit home runs.

Peter Lenstrohm threw the complete game for the win giving up 3 earned runs, 9 hits and striking out 3.

In the nightcap, YC pounded out 10 hits en route to the rout led by Austin Orth going 3 for 4. Leal and Aaron Blair each had 2 hits.

Matt Southard threw six innings to get his fifth victory of the year. The lanky Oklahoman scattered four hits and struck out 4.

YC continues ACCAC play on Tuesday, April 16. YC will play at GateWay Community College (23-22, 15-15). Game time will be at 12:00 PM.
