Softball Splits With Thunderbirds

The Roughrider softball team split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Mesa Community College in Mesa (10-8, 9-7), 0-1 and 8-0. YC is now 13-10 overall and 9-7 in the ACCAC playoff chase.

In the opener, Aundria Zuniga-Romero pitched a gem allowing 5 hits and the lone run. The Roughrider offense could only mange two hits against the Thunderbirds with Kasey Oliver and Sam Wilson collecting the knocks.

In the nightcap, Zuniga-Romero pitched her second no-hitter in a week for the Roughriders. The Roughrider bats supported the reigning ACCAC Pitcher of the Week with 13 hits. Oliver, the reigning ACCAC Player of the Week was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Wilson, Mita Cortez and Val Luera each had two hits.

YC will return to the home diamond on Tuesday, March 5th hosting Glendale Community College (13-11, 9-9). The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM.
