Baseball Manages Split

February 16th, 2013 » filed under: Baseball News, Top Story

The Roughrider baseball team saw their 7-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon in Phoenix but salvaged a key ACCAC Division I road split. YC fell to the Cougars from South Mountain Community College (8-6, 1-1) in today’s opener, 3-0 and bounced back in the nightcap winning 6-1. Yavapai is now 8-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

In the first game, the Roughrider defense stumbled in the first inning with 3 critical errors costing the team three unearned runs, the only runs scored in the game. Offensively, YC could only muster 5 hits off of the opponent’s pitching led by Aaron Blair with two hits.

In the second game, Ryan Petersen picked up the win throwing 4.2 innings, scattering 6 hits and allowing 1 run. Kyle Toth and Krysthian Leal led the Riders with 2 hits a piece.

Yavapai continues conference action on Monday, February 18th at Roughrider Park against fellow ACCAC foe Scottsdale Community College. The single 9-inning game will start at 2:00 PM.
