Baseball Salvages Split

The Roughrider baseball team managed a series split with the Matadors from Arizona Western College (29-18, 18-12) on Saturday with a 9-6 road victory. Yavapai is now 31-15 overall and 22-8 in ACCAC action.

Freshman Matt Smith earned his 8th victory of the year scattering nine hits and stranding 12 opponent runners over six innings of play. Aaron Blair threw the final three frames to get his fifth save.

Offensively, Tim Arakawa, Tyler Urps and Kyle Young combined for five hits and four runs batted in. Urps had two extra base hits with a double and a triple. Josh Tate added two hits.

The Roughrider nine returns home to host South Mountain Community College on Tuesday with a start time scheduled for 12:00 PM. In February, YC swept a doubleheader from the Cougars 10-5 and 11-5.
