Riders Drops Two

The #13 ranked Roughrider baseball team dropped a doubleheader in Douglas Saturday afternoon against Cochise College (21-17, 11-11), 5-6 and 9-13. YC falls to 27-13 on the season and 15-7 in ACCAC action.

In the opener, after one inning of play, Cochise held a slim 3-2 lead but added a run in the second and two in the third to lead 6-2. Neither team pushed a run across until the top of the seventh inning when YC plated three runs for the final score of 6-5. Tony Vocca took the loss in the opener surrendering all six run in three innings pitched.

Nolan Clark was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Jonathan Rodriguez, Tony Piazza and Jordan Negrini each had two hits.

In the late game, Cochise posted four runs in the opening frame and never looked back. Alex Miranda took the loss from the mound. Albert Alvarez had four hit. Matt Wehrli and Kenneth Gallegos each added three hits with Gallegos hitting a home run. As a team, YC had 19 hits but left too many men on base.

Yavapai returns to Roughrider Park on Tuesday, April 5th hosting #16 Central Arizona College. Two weeks ago, YC swept a doubleheader in Coolidge from the Vaqueros, 3-1 and 3-2. The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM
