The Lady Rider basketball team found out their opponent in the first round of the NJCAA Region I Division I playoffs Saturday morning at the season ending coaches meeting in Scottsdale. As a result of a coin flip, YC will travel to #7 Arizona Western College in Yuma for a Wednesday evening game against the Lady Matadors with the winner advancing to the Championship game at #18 Central Arizona College on Friday evening.

Central Arizona and Arizona Western both finished in a tie for the ACCAC Championship. Both teams split head to head competitions forcing the coin flip for the top seed. Head Coach Pat Cunningham called tails and the coin fell to heads giving Central the home court advantage.

In two meetings this year, the Roughrider lost both games to Arizona Western 74-64 and 91-90 in overtime. Against Central Arizona, YC fell 80-62 and 94-65. The winner of the NJCAA Region I Division I Tournament will advance to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Salinas, KS. Wednesday’s game will tip-off at 7:30 PM in Yuma.

In other Lady Rider news, Bernadette Sanchez and Antoinette Miller were named to the All-ACCAC 2nd Team for their efforts this season. Kayla Williams was named to the All-ACCAC 3rd Team. Additionally, all three young ladies garnered All-NJCAA Region I Division I 2nd Team honors.
