For the second time in three weeks, Kayla Williams was named the ACCAC Division I Player of the Week. The sophomore center averaged 18.5 points per game, shot 58% from the field, grabbed 10 rebounds per game and blocked 8 shots on the week. This is third time a Roughrider player has been so honored.
The #2 ranked Roughrider softball team finished the weekend undefeated by beating North Idaho College, 8-5 and Chipola College, 1-0 on Sunday. Yavapai is now 8-0 on the young season and opens conference action on Tuesday.

The Lady Rider basketball team bounced back from a disappointing loss on Wednesday to crush the visiting Coyotes from Chandler/Gilbert Community College Saturday afternoon, 94-53. On the day that they grabbed the #2 NJCAA pre-season national ranking, the Roughrider softball team did not disappoint as they won three games at the Las Vegas Invitational Friday.

The men’s and women’s basketball both lost Wednesday in Douglas to the host team Cochise College. The women fall to 15-6 overall and 7-6 in conference play in a low scoring affair, 58-51. The men fell 90-81 putting them at 8-13 overall and 5-8 in the league standing.

The Roughrider softball team will begin their 2011 season on Friday, January 28th at the Las Vegas Invitational. YC is looking for their third straight NJCAA Region I Division I crown and a return trip to the NJCAA Softball World Series.

The Lady Rider basketball team upended #7 ranked Mesa Community College Saturday night in the Storm Center, 69-67. With the victory, YC has knocked off three nationally ranked teams this season. Yavapai is now 15-5 overall and 7-5 in ACCAC action. Mesa falls to 12-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

For her efforts this past week, sophomore basketball player Kayla Willliams was named the ACCAC DI Player of the Week. In two games, the Seattle native averaged 22 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 73% (19/26) from the field. It is the second time this season that a Lady Rider has been so honored.
Former Roughrider basketball player, Larry Owens, has signed a 10-day NBA contract with the San Antonio Spurs. Owens was playing with the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League where he was averaging 12.7 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game and 3.2 assists per game.

The Roughrider basketball teams were swept by the Matadors from Arizona Western College Wednesday night at the conclusion of a three-day road trip. The women’s team could not overcome a notable size disadvantage losing 74-64. Meanwhile, the men missed 19 free throws to aid in an 81-60 defeat.
