Hoopsters Fall In OT

The Roughrider basketball team fell in overtime Friday evening to Western Texas Junior College, 89-82 in the Odessa College Tournament. YC is now 0-2 on the young season with one more game remaining on this road trip.

YC shot a dismal 26% from the field in the first half to go into halftime down 27-20. However, in the second half the Roughriders regained composure to take a nine-point lead and held a two-point lead with 12 seconds remaining in the game. West Texas tied the game in the waning seconds, 74-74, and the Roughriders had a final shot rim in and out for the win in regulation. YC was outscored in the extra period 15-8 to take the loss.

Lacy Haddock led the Roughriders in scoring with 24. The 6’2″ guard also had 3 assists and 2 steals. Ali Sabra scored in double figures for the second straight game with fourteen on 4 for 9 shooting from the three-point line. In two games, Sabra is 9 for 18 from beyond the arc. Colin Borchert added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Dionte Goodlet had 13 points and 6 rebounds and Jaron Kirk chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

YC concludes the tournament with the host team, Odessa College, Saturday night at 7:00 PM. Yavapai opens their home season on November 21st against Phoenix College.
