Cougars Slip By The Roughriders

Roughrider basketball fell to the #11 ranked South Mountain Community College Cougars this afternoon in Phoenix, 92-85. YC loses ground in the playoff hunt and with four games left every game is important. Yavapai is now 12-14 overall and 8-10 in the league standings.

Louis Barraza had a monster game scoring 27 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and distributing 4 assists. Javon Jones had 19 points; Brock Entner added 15 points and 4 assists and Brandon Gentry chipped in 11 points and 4 rebounds.

With twelve minutes remaining, the hoopsters found themselves down by 19 points before mounting a comeback. Head coach Howard Brown’s team would cut the lead to 3 points before succumbing to the final seven point defeat.

On Wednesday, February 20th YC faces Central Arizona College (8-10), the team the Roughriders are tied for in the race for the final playoff spot. CAC beat the home squad in their only meeting of the year, 74-67 in Coolidge. Tip-off will be at 7:30 PM in the Storm Center.
