Roughriders Fall to 1st Place Lady Matadors

Yavapai volleyball made the journey from Prescott to Yuma on Wednesday but did not return home with a win. The Roughriders managed to grab a set off of the 1st place Lady Matadors of Arizona Western College. (21-25, 25-23, 18-25, 17-25)

Yavapai’s serve receive passing was not at it’s best and that led to some struggles offensively. The team surrendered 11 receptions errors and could only muster a .081 hitting percentage.

Defensively sophomore libero Victoria McCarty led the Rouhgriders with 20 digs. Three other Roughriders made it into the double digit column with digs, sophomore outside hitter Nynke de Vries (11), freshman setter Paola Ortiz (10), and freshman outside hitter Annie Harte (10).

Offensively Yavapai was led by freshman right side hitter Lexi Cole with 11 kills (.0128).

The Roughriders will remain competing in the ACCAC away from Walraven gym for their next 2 matches. On Friday they will take on Chandler-Gilbert CC and next Friday they will again travel to Thatcher to take on eastern Arizona College. Match time is 7:00 pm for both. After those 2 matches Yavapai will play their next 6 ACCAC matches at home in Walraven Gym.
