Volleyball Battles But Falls to South Mountain

On Wednesday evening the Roughriders traveled to South Mountain CC for a showdown with the Cougars. Yavapai played with intensity and grit after falling behind 0-2 and won sets 3 & 4. In the 5th set both teams traded points and were within 2 points of each other throughout the decisive set. The scores were 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 30-28, 12-15.

The Roughrider offense was led by freshman middle blocker Lacie Tenney who knocked out 16 kills (.255). Sophomore middle blocker Makenna Busse led the team’s defense with an incredible 11 blocks. Sophomore libero Victoria McCartry chipped in 28 digs and freshman setter Pilar Daugherty added 46 assists.

South Mountain improved to 3-0 in ACCAC matches while Yavapai dropped to 0-2. This weekend the Roughriders will play 4 matches including 2 against top 20 opponents in the Coyote Invitational at College of Southern Nevada.
