Roughriders Split Doubleheader with Vaqueros

The Roughrider baseball team split a doubleheader with Central Arizona College Tuesday afternoon at Roughrider Park. YC won the first game in dramatic fashion, 3-2 and dropped the second game 6-4. The Green and Gold are now 25-24 on the year and 14-16 in conference play. The Vaqueros are 40-10 overall and 20-10 in ACCAC action.

The pitching was stellar in the first game by both starting pitchers. Alex Isola knocked a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning for the game winning runs. Over Torres (pictured at left) was 1 for 3 with a solo home run.

Dominic Hamel got the complete game victory scattering 6 hits while striking out 7.

Despite only having 3 hits in the second game, the Roughriders had their opportunity to win the game. The Vaqueros plated two runs in the top of the ninth after the Roughriders tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. YC got a runner on in their half of the ninth but failed to plate the runner.

Jonathan Stroman started the game for the Riders throwing 7.1 innings surrendering four runs on six hits.

Tommy Sacco, Matt Mendibles and Trevor Edior got the hits for the Riders and Alex Isola, Gianni Tomasi and Logan Williams each had an RBI.

Yavapai travels to Cochise College on Saturday, April 21st. The Roughriders are chasing the Apaches for that final playoff spot with 6 games remaining in the regular season. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
