John Scearce Earns YC Student Athlete of the Year Honors
The Yavapai College Athletics Student-Athlete of the Year is soccer player John Scearce as voted on by the YC coaches.
JOHN SCEARCE becomes the first player in Yavapai’s thirty-year soccer history to move on to an Ivy League school. After two years in leading the Roughrider soccer program, the sophomore from Chaparral High School received a soccer scholarship to Cornell University, a private and statutory Ivy League research university located in Ithaca, New York, founded in 1865.
This past season, Scearce scored 10 goals and had 15 assists and was named to the NJCAA All-Region I Second Team.
Scearce finished his Yavapai soccer career second all-time in assists with 31 in leading his team to a conference, region and district titles, along with a third-place national finish this past November. He also tallied 13 goals in his career out of his midfielder position. The two-year, all-region one soccer player will be studying business for the Big Red next fall.
