CARDIAC KIDS STRTIKE AGAIN!!!!

For the second time in three games, the Roughrider softball team won a game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off home run. Saturday night, Mariah Kalamaras had the game winning dinger and Tuesday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field, Yavapai won the second game of a doubleheader with a Makea Kaluau three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, 9-7. That victory completed a sweep of fellow ACCAC Division I opponent Arizona Western College. YC won the first game, 7-0. Yavapai improves their overall record to 38-9 overall and 30-6 in ACCAC action. AWC falls to 35-16 on the year and 26-11 in the conference standings.

In the opener, Jaya Allen got her 19th victory of the season with the complete game shutout. Allen only allowed 3 hits while striking out 12.

With the Riders leading 1-0 going into the bottom of the 4th, pinch hitter Meredith Clark hit a three-run home run to give home team room to breathe. YC added one more run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth.

Katelyn Kubitschek, Makayla Guerra and Mariah Kalamaras each had two hits. Clark and Guerra had 3 runs batted in each.

In the nightcap, YC fell behind 7-0 through 3 and half innings. Yavapai plated 2 runs in their half of the fourth inning to get on the board. The Green and Gold added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close the gap to 1 run.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Meredith Clark began the inning with a single. The reigning ACCAC Player of the Week, Kylies Brown followed that with a single bringing to the plate Makea Kaluau. With a 1-2 count Kaluau hit the opposite field bomb for the walk-off victory.

Kiana Spencer threw the final 4 innings for the victory. Spencer scattered 6 hits and struck out 4.

Brown was 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Jaydee Boursaw was 3 for 3 with a home run and 5 runs batted in. Clark, Guerra and Kubitschek each had two hits apiece.

YC plays host to Phoenix College on Thursday, April 12th. Yavapai dropped a doubleheader to the Bears on March 20th, 10-0 and 6-2. Thursdays doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM at Bill Vallely Field.
