Roughriders Split with Thunderbirds on the Road

The Roughrider baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon with Mesa Community College in Mesa. YC got the run-ruled victory in the first game 12-1 and dropped the second game on a walk-off home run, 11-10. Yavapai is now 22-21 overall and 11-13 in ACCAC action. Mesa is 34-10 and 18-10.

Yavapai College Roughriders had no trouble on offensively in the opener.

Darius Vines was the winning pitcher for the Roughriders. He pitched all six innings, allowing eight hits and one run while striking out five and walking one.

Yavapai collected 14 hits. Tommy Sacco, Jesus Pulido, Carlos Viera, Logan Williams, and Alex Isola all collected multiple hits for Riders.

A walk-off suicide bunt left the Roughriders on the wrong end of an 11-10 defeat. The game was tied at ten with Mesa batting in the bottom of the tenth when the suicide squeeze bunt was executed scoring one run for the Thunderbirds.

Despite the loss, YC did collect 14 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Mesa had 19 hits on the way to victory.

The Roughriders launched two home runs on the day. Tommy Sacco put one out in the fifth inning. Isola went for the long ball in the sixth inning. Isola, Sacco, Jesus Pulido, Trevor Edior, Gianni Tomasi, and Logan Williams all had multiple hits for Yavapai College Roughriders. Isola went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Yavapai in hits.

Yavapai returns to the friendly confines of Roughrider Park on Tuesday, April 10 hosting Paradise Valley Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park at Yavapai College
