Roughriders Sweep Thunderbirds
The Roughrider softball team swept a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader over Mesa Community College at Bill Valley Field, 13-5 and 7-0. Yavapai improves their record to 34-9 and 26-6 in conference play. Mesa falls to 22-18 overall and 18-18 in ACCAC action.
The Riders had to come from behind in the first game. Mesa struck first in the opening frame on a sacrifice fly. YC took the lead for good in the second inning on a two-run homer by Kylie Brown. Yavapai scored two more runs in the third inning and posted 8 runs in the fourth inning.
Jaya Allen got her 18th victory of the season throwing 4 innings of 1-hit ball while striking out 9.
The Roughrider bats scorched 13 hits led by Kylie Brown and Neenah Pangilinan. Both players were 3 for 4. Brown had 4 runs batted in with a home run. Jaydee Boursaw and Mariah Kalamaras each had two hits.
Santana Parra got the victory throwing the complete game shutout in the second game. Parra is now 6-0 on the year.
YC had 9 hits in the game and 6 were for extra bases. Jaydee Boursaw, Kylie Brown, Meredith Clark and Makea Kaluau all hit a home run. Brianna Griffiths was 2 for 4.
Yavapai continues conference play on Saturday, April 7th in a rare evening doubleheader against Central Arizona College. The first pitch will be thrown at 5:00 PM at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott.
