Roughrider Bats Crush the Aztecs
It was a huge day for the Roughrider softball team as they scored 26 runs in two games against fellow DI nemesis Pima Community College Tuesday afternoon in Tucson. YC won the first game 10-1 and won the second game 16-0 to improve their overall record to 32-9 and their conference mark to 24-6. Pima falls to 29-13 on the year and 20-12 in the ACCAC.
Jaya Allen took the circle in the first game and despite giving up 9 hits, the freshman right-hander only allowed 1 run to get the lop-sided victory.
Neenah Pangilinan and Jaydee Boursaw had home runs for the Hit Women. Makayla Guerrra was 2 for 3.
Allen got the starting nod in the second game also and only gave up 1 hit while striking out 4 batters. Allen got the victory, her second on the day and now has an overall record of 17-4, which puts her tops in the conference.
Offensively, Boursaw hit her second home run of the day and 20th of the year, leading the ACCAC. Meredith Clark and Katelyn Kubitschek each had a home run. Kubitschek had four hits in the game. Clark and Mariah Kalamaras each had 3 hits. Brianna Griffiths, Boursaw and Pangilinan had two hits apiece.
The Roughriders next game will be on Tuesday, April 3rd when they host Mesa Community College. YC beat the Thunderbirds in February in Mesa, 11-0 and 3-0. Next Tuesday’s doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
