Baseball Takes 2 in Tucson
The Roughrider baseball team swept a Saturday afternoon doubleheader over Pima Community College in Tucson, 4-2 and 7-5. Yavapai has now won 5 of their last 6 games improving their overall record to 11-12 and 5-5 in conference play. Pima falls to 14-14 on the season and 6-12 in the ACCAC standings.
Darius Vines was the winning pitcher for the Roughriders in the opener. The sophomore right-hander allowed seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one.
Tommy Sacco went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Roughriders. Sacco also had two stolen bases, as the Roughriders had four stolen bases in the game. Trevor Edior had a double and Carlos Viera knocked a triple.
YC got out to a seven-run lead through six innings and hung on for the 7-5 victory.
Jonathan Strohman started the game on the hill throwing six innings, surrendering zero runs on two hits over six innings, striking out nine and walking zero. Dominic Hamel threw three innings to get the save.
The Riders tallied 10 hits in the game including 6 for extra bases. Tommy Sacco, Carlos Viera and Over Torres each had two hits. Sacco and Torres had two RBI’s. Sacco had a double and home run. Viera had a double and his second triple of the day.
Yavapai takes a break from conference play entertaining Lamar Community College in two doubleheaders on Thursday, March 15th and Friday March 16th. The games will begin at 12:00 PM on each day.
