Baseball Stumbles Against Central Arizona

The Roughrider baseball team dropped a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to Central Arizona College in Coolidge, 4-2 and 13-8. YC falls to 6-11 on the year and 0-4 in the conference standings. Central Arizona is now 17-3 overall and 3-3 in ACCAC play.

It was a pitcher’s game in the opener as both teams only managed 14 hits between the them. YC plated the first run in the opening inning and Central Arizona tied the game in the fourth. The Vaqueros took the lead in the sixth inning and YC knotted the score in the bottom of the seventh inning but a walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh spelled doom for the Riders.

Over Torres led the Roughriders with two hits.

Offense was not an issue in the second game. YC put 3 runs on the board in the first inning, however, Central Arizona scored four runs in their half of the first innings. The Vaqueros scored 9 runs total in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings and the Roughriders only managed 5 during that stretch.

Torres and Alex Isola each had two hits. Torres had 3 runs batted and Isola had two helpers.

The Roughriders continue conference play on Tuesday, February 27th at Eastern Arizona College. The twinbill begins at 12:00 PM.
