Roughrider Soccer Player Ivy League Bound
Yavapai College soccer player John Scearce will be playing in the Ivy League next fall. The sophomore midfielder committed to Cornell University located in Ithaca, New York. Scearce is second all-time in assists for the Roughriders with 31 (Rudy Durate, 32). “JP” as he is referred to by his teammates, also scored 13 goals from his midfield position and was named to the All-Region One team in 2016 and 2017. The business major graduated from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale prior to arrival on the Prescott campus.
Yavapai will be announcing the commitments for the balance of the 13-member sophomore class next week. This past season, the Roughriders won conference, region and district titles, enroute to their 21st appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament. Yavapai finished third in the country with a 23-3-3 record, their 19th Final Four finish and 21st plus 20-win season. The Roughrider broke a 24-year old national scoring record with 145 goals scored in one season. Entering their 30th season of intercollegiate soccer in 2018, Yavapai College has an all-time record of 615-57-30, capturing 77 championships (conference, region, district, national) including seven national titles.
