Roughriders Drop Double Header to Cougars
The Yavapai College hardballers dropped a pair of games Saturday in their 2018 home opener to South Mountain Community College, 8-2 and 3-0. YC falls to 4-9 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. South Mountain improves to 11-6 overall and 2-0 in ACCAC action.
The Roughrider baseball team lost the lead late in the opener when the Cougars put 6 runs on the board in the top of the 7th inning.
YC struggled to put runs on the board. The Green Machine only got five hits.
In the second inning, Yavapai College Roughriders got their offense started when Dalton Daily singled on a 0-1 count, scoring Jesus Pulido. YC got their only other run on a South Mountain error.
Tommy Costello took the loss for the Roughriders. He allowed eight hits and six runs over six innings, striking out five and walking zero.
In the nightcap, both teams were strong on the mound, but South Mountain was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the Roughriders. Jonathan Stroman started the game for YC and recorded 21 outs.
YC only managed 4 hits leaving 5 runners on base. Cody Holtz, Mendibles, Tommy Sacco, and Roberto Cabrera each managed one hit to lead Yavapai College.
YC continues this homestand on Tuesday, February 20th as they entertain fellow DI opponent Cochise College. The first pitch will be at 12:00 PM
