Roughriders Drop 2 in Border Classic
The Roughrider baseball team had a tough go of it on Saturday in Henderson, Nevada dropping a pair of games to New Mexico Junior College, 6-5, and College of Southern Nevada, 9-1. YC finishes the Border Classic with a 2-2 record.
In the opener, YC held the lead through 8 and ½ innings. However, the defense took a tumble committing two errors and allowing the opponent to score 4 runs for the last inning victory. Carlos Viera led the Rider from the plate with 3 hits and scoring two runs. Alex Isola had two hits. Taylor Frost was the hard-luck loser from the mound despite not allowing an earned run.
In the nightcap, the Roughrider bats were held hitless. Yavapai scored their only run of the game on a fielder’s choice. The YC pitching had no answer for the opponent as they had 9 hits. Michael Cartwright was the pitcher of record in the loss.
Yavapai next faces Arizona Western College in a non-conference three-game series in Phoenix on Friday and Saturday.
