Baseball Knocks in 13 Runs In Victory Over Scottsdale
The Roughrider baseball team beat Scottsdale Community College Saturday afternoon at Roughrider Park, 13-10 avenging a 10-6 loss to the Artichokes on Friday. Yavapai is now 21-15 overall and 7-9 in ACCAC play. Scottsdale falls to 22-14 on the year and 10-10 conference action.
The Roughriders led from the first inning as they scored 7 unanswered runs in the first three innings. Scottsdale got on the board in the fourth inning scoring three runs but Yavapai responded with 5 runs in their half of the inning. Both teams were held scoreless for the next two innings before the Artichokes scored two in the seventh and three in the eighth to cut the deficit 13-8. The Scottsdale comeback continued in the ninth but ended on a strikeout from Roughrider pitcher Avery Weems.
YC had five players with multiple hits. Jaxxon Fagg was 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored Jonathan Villa was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Dallas Tessar was 2 for 4 and Cory Wills was 2 for 5 with 2 ribbies. Jeddediah Fagg and Carlos Viera both hit home runs giving the Roughriders a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Zach Pederson started the game on the mound throwing 4 innings and striking out 3. Hayden Durkiewicz got the victory in 3.1 innings pitched.
YC continues conference action on Tuesday, March 28th at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (21-14, 12-8). This will be the only meeting of the year for this matchup. The doubleheader begins at 12:00 PM.
