Volleyball Drops a Close Battle to Eastern Arizona
The Wednesday night volleyball match between Yavapai and Eastern Arizona College was a battle from start to finish. The two teams traded sets throughout the match. Unfortunately for the Roughriders the Gila Monsters won 3 of the 5 sets . The final scores were 21-25, 25-12, 18-25, 27-25, 11-15. In the previous three meetings between the two squads the Rouriders were 3-0 including two 5 set victories on Eastern Arizona’s home floor.
Statistically Yavapi set a few season highs in the match. Three Roughriders accumulating double digit kills for the first time in 2016. Sophomore Iva Alebic led the way with 19, freshman Kaytlin Yost was next with 11, and freshman Bailey Anderson was next with 10. Two more season highs were in blocks and digs, as Yavapai finished with 18 and 99 respectively. As a team the Roughriders hit .192 and accumulated 7 service aces.
The Roughriders finish the 2016 season with an ACCAC record of 11-5 and an overall record of 18-11. This year’s sophomore class finished with a career record of 40-19 and a 2 year combined ACCAC record of 25-7. Coach Shaver stated “This group of sophomores has helped raise the bar for Yavapai Volleyball and we are extremely proud of all they have accomplished!”
