Roughriders Transformed Into Road Warriors
The Volleyball squad traveled to Phoenix on Wednesday evening and returned to Prescott with a shutout victory over the Artichokes. Yavapai won by scores of 25-18, 26-24, 25-16.
Yavapai’s offense combined 37 kills, only 10 errors, on 113 attempts for a strong hitting percentage of .239. Kill leaders were right side hitter Kaytlin Yost with 10 (.222) and outside hitter Iva Alebic with 9 (.135). Freshman outside hitter Jailynn Butler (pictured left) had her most productive match of the season with 6 kills, only 1 error, on 18 attempts (.278). Both middle blockers, Bailey Anderson and Baylie Stephens were error free and had 9 kills between them for a combined hitting percentage of .474.
Although the Yavapai offense was strong their defense was the difference in the match. The Roughriders collected 61 digs (20.33 per set) with libero Hannah Semon leading the way with 26 digs. Yavapai also stopped the Scottsdale attack with 7 total blocks. The team’s serving was aggressive gathering 10 service aces in the 3 set victory.
The Roughriders will have to continue to be “road warriors” as they travel to Thatcher, AZ on Friday to take on the Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona College. Next week Yavapai will travel across town to battle the Eagle of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University then they will return to Thatcher, AZ for another bout with the Gila Monsters.
