Baseball In First Place
The Roughrider baseball team jumped into first place in the ACCAC with a doubleheader sweep of #20 ranked Central Arizona College at Roughrider Park Tuesday afternoon. YC edged the Vaqueros in the opener, 3-0 and took the nightcap, 12-2. Yavapai is now 30-14 overall and 21-7 in the ACCAC. CAC falls to 35-11 on the season and 20-8 in league play.
In the first game, Tim Arakawa provided the only offense needed for pitcher Blair Goldsack leading the game off with a home run, his second of the year. YC finished the scoring with two more runs in the third frame on a two-run single off the bat of Aaron Blair.
Goldsack (3-1) pitched the complete game gem scattering nine hits and leaving 15 opponent runners on base.
In the late game, Yavapai played small ball to score the first three runs of the game with three consecutive bunts and a bases clearing double by Blair. YC cracked the game wide open in the fourth inning with 8 runs capped off by a grand slam off the bat of Krysthian Leal.
Arakawa and Jordan Negrini each had three hits. Leal, Blair, Josh Tate and Tyler Urps had two hits apiece.
Peter Lenstrohm (5-0) pitched the complete seven-inning run-rule game striking out three batters and surrendering six hits.
Yavapai continues league play on Friday and Saturday at Arizona Western College. In their prior meeting, YC swept a twinbill from the Matadors, 3-2 and 2-1. The Roughriders return to the home diamond on Tuesday, April 17th hosting South Mountain Community College.
