Smith, Rodriguez Earn League Honors
For their efforts last week Roughrider softball players Kacie Smith and Jenna Rodriguez were named ACCAC Batter of the Week and Pitcher of the Week respectively.
The awards are the first in Yavapai College softball history and the first conference honors given out this season.
Smith batted .733 (11-15) for the week as YC won all four of its games. The freshman infielder from Waddell, Arizona had 10 RBI’s, one home run, six stolen bases, and scored nine runs. Moreover, Smith leads the league in runs batted in, is third in batting average and runs scored and second in hits behind teammate Caitlin Stangl.
Rodriguez was 3-0 on the week for the Roughriders. She allowed only four hits in 10 innings in winning two games against GateWay Community College. Rodriguez only gave up one run and striking out seven in her third win of the week against Tallahassee Community College. The California native leads the ACCAC pitchers in wins (18) and strikeouts (141).
