Softball Shoots Down The Eagles
The Lady Roughrider softball team swept a non-league doubleheader against the visiting Tallahassee Community College Eagles, 12-5 and 13-3.
The two victories improve Yavapai’s overall record to 28-8 and the conference mark remains at 13-3. TCC falls to 10-9 and 0-6 on their Arizona swing.
Jenna Rodriguez picked up her 16th win on the year pitching five innings, scattering nine hits with seven strikeouts. Britinie Hardine got back to the mound after an eight game layoff due to injury. The freshman right-hander threw two innings allowing only one hit.
From the plate, Caitlin Stangl was perfect going 4 for 4 with three runs scored and one run batted in. Kacie Smith also had a perfect day going 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBI’s. Brittany Tucker left the yard for her seventh home run of the year. Aly Rhodes and Aubrianna Chiquete each added two hits.
In the nightcap, Hardine started the game on the hill and Jessie Pretzer finished the final three innings to get the win. Smith enjoyed another perfect outing at the plate going 3 for 3 with a home run, three runs scored and four runs batted in. Tucker knocked her second dinger of the day. Rodriguez and Chiquete each crushed home runs for the home team.
Yavapai resumes conference play on Tuesday, March 18th against fellow ACCAC Division I foe Arizona Western College. The doubleheader will be played at Roughrider Park on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott beginning at 12:00 PM.
