Softball Blasts Gateway
The Yavapai College softball team erupted for 20 runs yesterday against Gateway Community College, 18-0 and 2-0.
In the last five games, YC has only allowed four opponent runners to cross the plate. Stacy Iveson’s group is now 26-8 overall and 13-3 in ACCAC action.
Jenna Rodriguez got the win in both games to run her record to 15-3. In the first game, the freshman right-hander threw three innings striking out four Gecko batters. Jessie Pretzer pitched the final two innings allowing only one hit and whiffing 4 batters.
Offensively, Kacie Smith led the onslaught going 5 for 5 with a double, three runs scored and four runs batted in. Aubrianna Chiquete was 3 for 4 with a double, one run scored and three RBI’s. Caitlin Stangl and Rodriguez were both 2 for 4 and Aly Rhodes was 2 for 5 scoring two runs and knocking in one run.
In the nightcap, Rodriguez pitched a complete game scattering three hits to record her fifth shutout on the year. Stangl, the hits leader in the ACCAC, was 3 for 4 with a run scored. Rhodes and Chiquete were 1 for 2.
Yavapai takes a break from conference play on Thursday, March 13th to entertain Tallahassee Community College, FL in an afternoon twinbill. The games will begin at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
