Mesa Upsets Lady Riders
The Lady Rider basketball team’s win streak was stopped at 4 by Mesa Community College tonight in the Storm Center, 83-76.
YC drops to 5-5 overall and 4-1 in ACCAC action. Mesa improves to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference standings.
Yavapai’s performance was uninspired and sluggish, allowing Mesa to pick apart the Lady Riders usually sticky man-to-man defense. At halftime, the home team found themselves down by eight, 36-28. MCC took a commanding 14 point lead midway through the second half, only to find that the Lady Riders picked up their intensity enough to cut the margin to 4. However, too little, too late. Mesa hit their free throws to seal the win and drop YC to .500 on the season.
Once again, Tehani Goldsmith led the squad in scoring with 26 points. Kellie Snyder had her 3rd double-double on the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Paris Dunford and Jonisha Carson chipped in 12 points a piece.
YC travels to Tucson to play Pima Community College on Friday before taking 15 days off. Both teams squared off twice last season with Yavapai winning both games, 84-65 and 52-43. Tip-off will be at 5:30 PM.
