Howard Brown - Head Coach

Howard Brown begins his 4th season as the Head Coach at Yavapai College.

Brown came to Yavapai College after a very successful stint as the head basketball coach at Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona. At Glendale, his teams made the Arizona Community College Athletics Association (ACCAC) Division II regional playoffs in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. His 2004 squad was 26-9, played in the NJCAA national tournament and finished ranked #6 in the final coach’s poll. He was also voted Region 1 and District 1 Coach of the Year in 2004-2005.

In his first 3 years at Yavapai, he has compiled a 50-40 overall record including a 20-10 overall record during the 2006-07 season.

Howard attended Central Arizona College and earned his B.A degree in biology from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. He earned his Masters degree from Northern Arizona University and his Principal’s certification from the University of Phoenix.

His coaching career began as an assistant at Northern Arizona University where he helped the Lumberjacks to a Big Sky championship and NIT bid in 1986. Following brief stints as an assistant high school coach in Colorado and Arizona, Howard became the head basketball coach at Westview High School in Avondale, Arizona where his teams had a record of 72-46.

Howard then moved on to Glendale Community College as an assistant for one year before being appointed the head coach in July, 1997. In addition to his duties as head basketball coach, Howard served as academic advisor to student-athletes, taught physical education classes and served as athletics web site manager and sports information director.

Additionally, he has had extensive experience with developing and administering basketball camps for boys and girls.

Jay Banaszak - Assistant Coach

Jay Banaszak begins his first season as an assistant at Yavapai College. For the last 3 seasons, he worked as a women's assistant coach at Division 1 Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA helping to lead the Red Flash to a birth in the Northeast Conference Tournament, one Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

While there, he was in charge of working with the Red Flash post players and wings as well as recruiting prospective athletes from Pennsylvania and the East Coast. In his efforts, he was responsible for helping to recruit two Kodak Junior College All-Americans. He also dealt with travel and game scheduling.

Aside from his coaching duties, Banaszak was also in charge of the program’s fundraising activities. In his first season there, he helped guide the Red Flash to a 21-10 overall record and their 4th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 9th in 10 years.

Prior to joining the Red Flash staff, Banaszak served as head coach of Point Park University’s women’s program for two years. He guided the Pioneers to their best season as a member of the American Mideast Conference in 2003-04.

Banaszak began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Point Park during the 2001-02 campaign. Before that, he was a varsity assistant and junior varsity head coach at Bethel Park High School for three years.

Banaszak earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/accounting from Saint Vincent College in 1996 and was a four-year letterwinner on the Bearcats’ basketball team.

He has worked as a counselor at a host of camps, including the Drill-for-Skill Camp, the Rick Bell Basketball Camp and the Metro Index Basketball Camp.

Banaszak's father, John, was a member of the heralded Pittsburgh Steelers Steel Curtain defense, where he was a starting defensive end on two of four Super Bowl Championship teams in the 1970’s.

Eric Fundalewicz - Assistant Coach

Eric Fundalewicz enters his 2nd year as an assistant coach at Yavapai College.

Prior to returning to Yavapai, Fundalewicz spent the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons at Saint Francis University (PA) as a women's assistant coach and helping to lead the Red Flash to a birth in the Northeast Conference Tournament, one Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

While there, he was in charge of working with the Red Flash guards as well as recruiting Junior College players and high school players from the West Coast and in the Northeast.

In his efforts, he was responsible for recruiting two Kodak Junior College All-Americans.

Fundalewicz also coordinated the program's charity and promotional activities. In his first season there, he helped guide the Red Flash to a 21-10 overall record and their 4th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 9th in 10 years.

Fundalewicz served as an assistant women's coach at Cal State-Northridge in 2003-04, helping the Matadors double their win total from the previous season and finishing one game from their first ever Big-West Conference Tournament.

He was in charge of working with the team's forwards and guards as well as working with the team's film exchange and travel.

Prior to his 3 year stint at the Division 1 level, Fundalewicz served as an assistant women’s coach at Yavapai College for three years from 2000-2003, helping lead the Roughriders to a 66-27 record and three consecutive tournament appearances.

In his first season with the Roughriders, he doubled as both a men’s and women's basketball assistant.

He was responsible for recruiting ten all-conference performers to Yavapai and two Kodak Junior College All-Americans.

His other duties included being the team's recruiting coordinator, working with the team’s post players, and purchasing.

A 1999 graduate of Northern Arizona University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education, Fundalewicz was a student-assistant with the women’s basketball program at NAU for four seasons. In his second season, the Lumberjacks claimed their first-ever Big Sky regular season title and posted the program’s first 20-win season.

Fundalewicz has worked at numerous camps, including the Duke Women’s Elite Position Camp, Arizona State Women’s Basketball Camp, the Wyoming Women’s Team Camp, and the Nike Jason Kidd/Bill Frieder Basketball Camp.

He and his wife, Raigan, have a 2 children, Kree and Coley, and reside in Prescott.
