National Tournament hosted by Yavapai College, City of Prescott & Town of Prescott Valley
The 26th season of Yavapai College soccer will kick off with a conference road match versus Gateway Community College on Saturday, August 23 at 4:30 p.m. at Rose Mofford Park in Phoenix. The home opener will follow on Thursday, August 28 against Scottsdale Community College at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley. Two non-conference teams, the College of the Desert (Calif.) and nationally ranked Dakota County Technical College (Minn.), will kick-off Prescott’s Ken Lindley Field portion of Yavapai’s home schedule on Sept. 12 and 13 respectively. All home matches start at 6:00 p.m. Both home venues will play host to the 2014 NJCAA National Tournament, Nov. 18-23.
The Roughriders are 535-46-24 all-time, capturing 71 conference, region, district and national titles including seven national championships. Yavapai have won three national titles in New Jersey, three in Texas and one in Phoenix (which completed their perfect 26-0-0, 2008 season). The 2014 schedule marks the first time the NJCAA National Tournament will be hosted by Yavapai College, the City of Prescott and the Town of Prescott Valley. The initial national tournament was played in 1961, eight years before the first academic course was offered on the Prescott campus. The Roughriders have qualified for 20 national tournaments, finished in the final four 18 times and have made 13 appearances in the national championship game. Head Coach Mike Pantalione has coached all 605 matches in the program’s storied history.
