The Roughrider baseball team split a road doubleheader with Arizona Western College Tuesday afternoon in Yuma, 4-0 and 8-11. YC is now 23-20 overall and 12-16 in conference play. Western is 26-19 on the year and 11-17 in the ACCAC.

In the opener, starting pitcher Stephen Carabajal struck out 9 batters and surrendered only 2 hits en route to the teams third shutout win on the year.

Luke Doyle was 1 for 2 with a home run and two runs batted in. John King was 1 for 1 with two runs scored.

In the nightcap, YC couldn’t hold a late inning lead allowing 4 runs to cross the plate in the bottom of the 8th inning.  Offensively, Doyle led the team 3 for 5. Austin Paschke had two hits.

Yavapai entertains the Aztecs from Pima Community College (26-17, 15-10) on Saturday, April 12th. Last month, YC beat Pima in the opener of a doubleheader, 2-0 and dropped the second game 9-0. Saturday’s twin bill will start at 12:00 PM.
