The Roughrider team dropped a home doubleheader to GateWay Community College Tuesday afternoon, 9-1 and 6-5. YC is now 24-23 overall and 13-19 in conference play. GateWay improves to 30-20 on the year and 19-13 in the league standings. With 6 games remaining, Yavapai is 2 games out of the final playoff spot.

In the opener, GateWay pulled away with five late runs for the lopsided victory. The Roughrider offense could only manage one run on nine hits. Brock Hartley and JC Pena each had two hits apiece.

Starting pitcher Stephen Carabajal baffled the opponent batters, striking out nine. The New Mexico native allowed two run on six hits over six innings.

In the nightcap, YC could not overcome four first inning runs by the Geckos. Yavapai scored two in the first innings and was held scoreless until the ninth inning when they scored three runs. GateWay scored four runs in the first inning and two in the sixth.

From the dish, Hartley added two more hits. Alexis Cruz was 1 for 4 with two runs batted in.

YC takes to the road with a doubleheader at #13 Central Arizona College on Saturday, April 19th. The Vaqueros swept a doubleheader from the Riders on April 1st in Prescott, 0-8 and 4-18. Saturday’s twinbill starts at 12:00 PM.
