Baseball Splits…Again

April 12th, 2014 » filed under: Baseball News, Top Story

Sticking with the latest theme, the Roughrider baseball team split a doubleheader with Pima Community College Saturday afternoon, 4-2 and 2-13. Yavapai’s overall record is now 24-21 and they stand at 13-17 in the conference standings. Pima is 28-19 on the year and 17-12 in league play.

In the opener, YC needed an extra inning to beat the Aztecs. In the bottom of the 8th, Andrew Hermanson began the inning with a single and JC Pena bunted him over to second. Brock Hartley drove Hermanson home with a double to the right field fence for the walk-off winner. Stephen Carabajal pitched one inning to earn the victory.

Hartley was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, 1 run scored and 2 runs batted in. John King was 2 for 2 with a double.

Pima pitching stymied the Roughrider offense in the second game as the home team only managed 4 hits.  Conversely, YC pitching surrendered 13 runs on 17 hits.

Yavapai entertains Gateway Community College (28-20, 17-13) on Tuesday, April 15th. Gateway dropped a doubleheader to Scottsdale on Saturday, 14-6 and 6-5. Tuesday’s twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
