Rider Nine Gets Huge Sweep

The Roughrider baseball team got a much needed doubleheader sweep over Cochise College Saturday afternoon in Douglas, 6-1 and 7-6 (10 innings). YC improves to 3-7 in ACCAC play and 9-10 overall. Cochise falls to 5-5 in the conference standings and 9-8 on the year.

In the opener, starting pitcher Chance Adams got the victory going the distance, scattering 3 hits and striking out a career high 11 batters.

Alexis Cruz, Luke Doyle and Brody Clifford each had two hits. Cruz knocked in 2 runs and Andy Verke had 2 RBI’s on one hit.

Austin Orth came up with the huge hit in the nightcap slamming a home run in the top of the 10th inning for the winning run. Will Waterman threw 2 innings to get his first victory of the year.

Brock Hartley was 3 for 5 with an RBI. JC Pena, Verke and Clifford each had two hits.

Yavapai returns to the friendly confines on Tuesday, March 4th as they entertain Arizona Western College (14-8, 4-6). The first pitch will thrown at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park.
