Riders Tame Wolfpack

The Roughrider baseball team snapped their six game losing streak with a non-conference doubleheader sweep over the visiting Wolfpack from Thompson Rivers University, 18-4 and 9-1 Wednesday afternoon at Roughrider Park. YC improves their record to 6-7 on the year.

In the opener, YC pounded opponent pitching, as nine hitters combined for 21 hits, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored in the run-rule shortened game. JC Pena led the home team going 4 for 5 with two home runs and four runs batted in. Andrew Hermanson was 3 for 5 with four runs knocked in and Akoni Arriaga was 3 for 4 with two RBI’s. Brock Hartley was 2 for 3 with a home run.

Brandon Matthews got the victory throwing 3 innings and striking out two.

In the nightcap, YC used a five-run fifth inning to break away from the visitors to secure the twinbill sweep.

Hermanson and Pena were each 3 for 3. Hartley hit his second home run of the day.

Arriaga was the winner from the bump hurling 4 innings and striking out 4 batters.

Yavapai returns to conference play on Saturday, February 22nd at Chandler/Gilbert Community College (9-2, 1-1). The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM.
