The Roughrider baseball team pounded out 15 hits, seven for extra bases, Tuesday afternoon in a 13-7 victory over the Gauchos from Glendale Community College in Glendale in a non-conference affair. Yavapai is now 4-1 on the young season and Glendale falls to 7-2.

Offensively, Andrew Hermanson accomplished a rare feat when he hit for the cycle. The California native went 4 for 5 in the game. He doubled in the second inning, tripled in the fifth inning, singled in the sixth inning, and homered in the eighth inning.

Austin Paschke, Stephen Carabajal and Luke Doyle each had three hits. Paschke had a double and four runs batted in. Carabajal, the reigning conference player of the week, had a double and a triple with four RBI’s and Doyle had a triple and two runs knocked in.

Nick Sagendorf got the win for Roughriders despite allowing seven runs over eight innings. Sagendorf struck out five, walked two and gave up nine hits.

YC continues non-conference play on Wednesday, February 12th in the 2014 home opener. The Roughrider nine plays host to the Bruins from Salt Lake Community College. In their previous meeting in Las Vegas, Yavapai scored two runs in the ninth inning to beat the Bruins 3-2. Wednesday’s doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.

** For his efforts last week, sophomore outfield/pitcher Stephen Carabajal was named ACCAC Player of the Week. The New Mexico native hit a whopping .833 last week going 5 for 6 with two walks and drove in 7 runs.
