February 12th, 2014 » filed under: Baseball News, Top Story

The Roughrider baseball team dropped the both ends of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Roughrider Park to the visiting Bruins from Salt Lake Community College, 4-3 and 10-5. YC falls to 4-3 on the season while the Bruins improve to 3-3.

In the opener, Salt Lake scored 4 runs in their half of the seventh inning to take the lead and shut the Riders out in their half of the inning to take the ballgame.

Starting pitcher Stephen Carabajal pitched six shutout innings scattering 4 hits and striking out 6 opponent batters. Haden Shipman took the loss.

Offensively, Austin Paschke and Andrew Hermanson had two hits a piece. Luke Doyle and Brody Clifford each had a hit and an RBI.

In the nightcap, YC fell behind 5-0 but netted 4 runs in their half of the fourth inning to pull within 1. However, that was as close as the Roughriders would get. Salt Lake scored 1 run in the sixth inning and plated 4 runs in the 8th inning to put the lead out of reach.

Clifford had 3 doubles and 2 runs batted in and Carabajal added two hits.

The Roughriders begin conference play on Saturday as they play host to South Mountain Community College. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park on the Prescott campus.
