Former Roughrider baseball player and two-time NJCAA All-American Billy Hatcher will be in uniform tonight for the Cincinnati Reds as they play the Pittsburgh Pirates in a Wild Card Play-In Game with the winner advancing to play the St. Louis Cardinals.

Hatcher has been with the Reds organization for the past 8 years as the first base coach and outfield/baserunning coach.

The Williams, AZ native played for the Roughriders in the 1980 and 1981 seasons under then head coach Rod Soesbe. In both seasons, Hatcher was named to the NJCAA All-American Teams and in 1981 was named to the All-Southwest Region Team. Hatcher was a 6th round draft pick in 1981 by the Chicago Cubs and made his major league debut on September 10, 1984 with those same Cubs.

Hatcher played in one MLB World Series with the Cincinnati Reds in 1990 when they swept the Oakland Athletics to win the World Series Crown, 4-0. In the series, Hatcher was 9 for 12 (.750) with 4 doubles, 1 triple, 2 runs batted in and 6 runs scored. He still owns the MLB record for most consecutive hits in the World Series with 7.
