The Yavapai College soccer team advanced to the NJCAA Region I Championship Match Wednesday night with a 3-2 victory over Pima Community College at Ken Lindley Field. Yavapai is now 17-2-3 on the season and Pima finishes their year at 14-7-1. Yavapai is now 39-3 all-time in Region I playoff competition.Tonight’s result marks the 55th all-time win against the Aztecs, the most victories against any YC opponent. Additionally, tonight’s match was the 600th game in the history of the program and the 534th win. With the victory, head coach Mike Pantalione ties the NJCAA men’s soccer career wins record held by former Ulster County head coach George Vizvary.

In the championship match, Yavapai will be looking for their 99th playoff victory as they play Phoenix College, winners over Arizona Western College Wednesday night, 2-1. In two meeting this season, YC won in Prescott, 2-1 and tied in Phoenix, 1-1. Yavapai will be seeking their 21st Region crown since 1990. Saturday night’s match will be played in Phoenix beginning at 6:00 PM.
