Volleyball Wins 5 Set Battle With Central Arizona

Tonight’s match between Yavapai and Central Arizona went the distance. Both teams entered the evening 1-0 in ACCAC competition but Yavapai came away with the win in 5 sets (25-22, 26-28, 25-19, 20-25, 15-8).
Leading the way offensively was right side hitter Hayley Sturgeon with 16 kills and a .258 hitting percentage. Casey Johnson who is currently 4th in the country in total kills (146) chipped in with 14 tonight along with 16 digs giving her 7 double / doubles on the season. Setter Becca Long (49 assists) got the middle attack going with 9 kills (.444) for Braxton Fenter and 7 kills with zero errors for Natalie Fahey.
Defense was the difference in tonight’s match! Libero Jasmine Solley led the way with 25 of the team’s 95 digs.The team combined for 13 total blocks with Hayley Sturgeon gathering 7 block assists and Braxton Fenter added 6.
Next up for the Roughriders on this three match home stand is a non-conference match with Phoenix College on Friday evening at 7:00 pm followed by the Crosstown Battle Against Breast Cancer Match between Yavapai and Embry Riddle University on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
