Volleyball Improves to 4-0 In ACCAC Competition

On Friday afternoon the Roughriders traveled to Thatcher, AZ to take on the Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona College. They returned home to Prescott with their first victory over EAC since 2008.
The match started well for the Roughriders with a 25-22 victory in set 1 but then the table was turned and Eastern Arizona won set 2, 22-25. Then the match became really interesting! Yavapai was unstoppable in set 3 with a convincing 25-13 victory. At one point Yavapai held a 16 point lead in the set and was able to keep the Gila Monsters out of system with excellent serving. The 4th set was very different with both teams staying within 2 points of each other throughout the entire set. Yavapai eventually won the set and the match with a 26-24 final score in the 4th set to avoid another 5 set match.

Jasmine Solley grabbed 45 more digs which moves her up the #2 in the country in total digs. Setter Becca Long earned a double \ double with 43 assists and 11 digs. Outside hitter Casey Johnson also collected another double \ double with a team high 17 kills and 13 digs. Two more Roughriders who attacked extremely well for the match were middle blocker Natalie Fahey and right side hitter Hayley Sturgeon. Neither hitter had an attacking error all night. Fahey ended the night hitting .478 with 11 kills and 2 aces. Sturgeon finished the night with 13 kills while hitting .464.
Yavapai looks to keep up their “Road Warrior” mentality as they travel to play Chandler-Gilbert Wednesday at 7:00 pm. On Friday comes a big rematch with Arizona Western as they travel to Prescott looking to avenge th 15-17 5th set loss to the Roughriders which happened in Yuma, AZ on September 11th. Match time is set for 7:00 pm in Walraven Gym.
