Volleyball Earns First Win of 2013

Roughrider volleyball opened the 2013 season at the New Mexico Military Institute Invitational with a 3 set to 1 victory over Frank Phillips College from Borger, TX. Casey Johnson recorded her first double double of the season leading the team with 15 kills and 13 digs. More offensive contributions came from middle blocker Braxton Fenter with 8 kills while hitting .388 and outside hitter Marley Boase who tallied 10 kills with only 1 error. Fenter also contributed defensively with 7 block assists, 1 solo block, and led the team from the service line with 3 aces. Right side hitter Haley Sturgeon chipped in with 6 block assists and 6 kills. Setter Becca Long finished the match with 34 assists 9 digs. Jasmine Solley anchored the defense from the libero position with 11 digs. Next up for Yavapai is the nationally pre-season #11 ranked team Hutchinson CC from Kansas at 3:30 pm. In Roswell, NM on Saturday the Roughriders will play two more matches against Odessa and Clarendon.
