Yavapai College Kicks Off 25th Soccer Season Ranked In The Top Five Nationally
The National Junior College Athletic Association has released the 2013 pre-season rankings for Division I men’s soccer and Yavapai College finds themselves in the 5th position. Since 1990, the Roughriders have been ranked in every weekly poll holding the number one position 75 times.
Since 1990, Yavapai has captured seven national championships. Mercer County Community College (NJ) has won the title four times; Tyler Junior College (TX) has won three times; and seven schools have held the cup once.
Rough Notes: Yavapai College will kick off their 25th season, conference and home opener on Thursday, Aug. 22 versus Chandler-Gilbert Community College at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley. Two nights later on Saturday, Aug. 24, the Roughriders will host Glendale Community College in their “Prescott home opener” at Ken Lindley Field. The NJCAA National Tournament will take place Nov. 18-23 at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. The City of Prescott and the Town of Prescott Valley will play host to the NJCAA National Tournament in 2014. The Roughriders will feature 25 new players on their 2013 roster. Milestone alert finds NJCAA Division One Coaching Leader Mike Pantalione (517 wins) entering his 25th season 17 victories shy of the All-Time NJCAA Wins Leader George Vizvary (534 wins/37 years, now retired) of Division 3, Ulster County Community College of Stone Ridge, New York.
