The Yavapai Volleyball coaching staff is proud to announce their 2013 recruiting class. Adding to the five sophomores who are returning from 2012 will be nine new players including eight freshmen and one sophomore transfer.

Strengthening the setting position will be Christina Pociask (Mesa, AZ) and Kaitlin Faber (Camarillo, CA). Both Pocaisk and Faber play for strong club teams, Club One and Rincon respectively. Chrissy is extremely athletic and competitive while Kaitlin brings years of setting experience so both will compete right away for the starting setter position.

Ready to compete for time on the court in the libero position will be freshman Kristina Norsworthy (Phoenix, AZ) and Chloe Davis (Scottsdale, AZ) who is transferring from powerhouse Seward CC in Kansas where she started as their libero for most of the 2012 season. Both players are athletic and energetic which is important defensively and both played for strong Phoenix based clubs. (AZVC and AZ United)

Adding to the team’s strength at the net are middle blockers Kendy Klump (Riverside, CA) who played for Viper VBC and Braxton Fenter (Vacaville, CA) who competed for Absolute VBC which earned the right to play in the Junior Olympics this summer in Dallas, TX. Both Kendy and Braxton are extremely athletic and well trained offensively plus at 6’2” and 6’1” respectively they bring the height need to be dominant as middle blockers.

The 2013 recruiting class will also bring three new players who will contribute both offensively and defensively at the pin positions. The first is Kaiana Iaea (Honolulu, HI) who is an outside hitter from the renowned Asics Rainbow VBC. Next is Marley Boase (Vista, CA) who is also an outside hitter for Wave VBC which is one of the strongest clubs in Southern California. Both Iaea and Boase are solid passers and strong attackers. The third addition is right side hitter Hayley Sturgeon (Mountain View, CA) who plays for the newly formed Mountain View VBC. Hayley was large part of her team winning the No Dinx Far Western National Qualifier which allowed them to qualify for the Junior Olympics. All three of these players will bring the skills and athleticism needed to compete for playing time right away.

The Roughrider squad finished the 2012 season with a terrific record of 28-7 and narrowly missed out on the post season due to a tie breaking procedure. With this roster of players coaches Shaver and Mellencamp are hopeful of returning to post season competition in November.
