Cougill Named Head Coach

Yavapai College Interim Head Baseball Coach Ryan Cougill has been named the permanent head coach for the Roughrider baseball team becoming the sixth skipper in YC history. Cougill led the Roughriders to a 43-15 overall record and a 25-13 conference mark in the 2013 season. Cougill has been with the Roughrider staff for five seasons serving under former head coach Sky Smeltzer.

Under Cougill’s tutelage this past season, Yavapai led the conference and finished 8th in the country in hitting (.345), doubles (124, 5th in the nation), triples (32, 6th nationally) and home runs (24). The Roughriders reached the NJCAA Region I Playoffs for the sixth consecutive season falling in the first round to eventual National Tournament third place finishers, Cochise College.

The Roughrider baseball team will begin their 44th season in the 2013-14 school year. Yavapai has won 13 ACCAC Championships and 7 NJCAA Region I titles. YC has reached the National Tournament 7 times in their existence winning the title three times, finishing 2nd twice and 3rd twice.
