Softball Whips The Coyotes

The Roughrider softball team won their eighth and ninth consecutive games Saturday afternoon in Chandler over the Coyotes from Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 10-0 and 8-1. Yavapai is now 30-15 overall and 26-12 in the ACCAC standings.

In the opener, Aundria Zuniga-Romero threw a complete game to get her seventh shutout and 23rd victory on the year. The right-handed hurler only allowed 2 hits and fanned three opponent batters.

Offensively, Taylor Riesgo and Brandi Heimburg each collecting three hits apiece led the Roughriders. Sam Wilson was 2 for 3 with three RBI’s.

Val Luera was 4 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and four runs batted in. Hannah Hill was 3 for 3. Wilson, Riesgo and Kasey Oliver each had two hits. Oliver knocked in two runs.

Sarah Thompson threw four innings for her 7th victory of the year.

YC plays Scottsdale Community College on Tuesday at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott on Tuesday, April 9th. Yavapai squeaked out a doubleheader sweep earlier in the season over the Artichokes, 1-0 and 4-2. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
